71 – John Carter (2012)

Director: Andrew Stanton Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Defoe, Samantha Morton Running time: 132 mins

Subject: What makes John Carter better than received critical wisdom would have you think isn’t the beautifully crafted set. It isn’t the fast-paced action or quality cast. It’s not even the attractiveness of its stars, the chemistry between them or the brief appearance of Bryan Cranston. No, what makes John Carter worth your £££s  is the sheer playfulness of it all. Taylor Kitsch’s John Carter is a hero with a twinkle in his eye – like Indiana Jones. And all the monsters/martians, have a splash of the sublimely ridiculous. Just look at that thing above.

Like: Indiana Jones and the unexpected visit to Mars

 Core truth: Fun fun fun.
